A transition occurs when you start employment. As opposed to school, in which you are largely working for yourself, you are now working for someone else. The people to whom you report and the organization of which you are a member have needs, wants and goals—and these may not always perfectly align with your own. If handled incorrectly, these potential conflicts of interest can seriously damage your relationship with your colleagues. But balancing them properly can significantly enhance your reputation and stature.
