Three Spanish-speaking physicists describe some career challenges in a scientific world dominated by English—and how institutions can help level the playing field.

Spanish is the official language in over 20 countries, accounting for more than 450 million speakers. This can be a great advantage for native Spanish speakers in those countries. Yet many young people born in Spanish-speaking countries wish to study or work in places in which they face the necessity of learning a different language. And in science, that language requirement is English.
