Australia-based optical technologies company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) opened a new facility in Singapore on 6 February 2026. The site will be used to produce and test high-energy lasers, supporting customers in Singapore and the region more broadly. EOS says the new development represents a milestone in its global growth strategy.

“The facility provides dedicated space for system integration, development, demonstration and sustainment activity,” EOS stated in a press release. “It expands EOS’s capacity to deliver at scale, strengthens supply chain resilience and enables faster response to regional customer requirements.”

Demand for laser defense systems

Drone warfare has become a leading mode of combat in conflicts, so counter-drone technology is in high demand. The first operational high-power laser weapon is part of Israel’s “Iron Beam” defense system, and similar systems are near completion in other countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.

EOS, which has expertise in optical technologies for space and defense, says it has received two export orders for 100 kW-class laser weapon systems.

EOS, which has expertise in optical technologies for space and defense, says it has received two export orders for 100 kW-class laser weapon systems, one from the Netherlands and the other from a customer in the Republic of Korea, which will also serve to create a partnership there. The firm notes that the Singapore facility will play a role in the production and integration of these transactions.

“The Singapore facility will operate as EOS’s center of excellence in laser technology innovation, supporting multiple international laser projects,” said EOS CEO Andreas Schwer. “As demand grows, EOS expects future expansion to increasingly involve localized production and integration, driven by customer requirements for sovereignty and long-term control of capability development.”

New partnerships

Since announcing the new facility, EOS has established an agreement with weapons manufacturer KNDS France to combine their expertise, advance cooperation on remote-controlled weapon stations and pursue new business opportunities together. Schwer said of the arrangement, “By combining EOS best-in-class counter-drone systems with state-of-the-art medium-caliber weapons and vehicles from KNDS, this partnership will provide modern and ITAR [International Traffic in Arms Regulations]–free evolutive solutions for armed forces, in a constantly changing environment.”

The company also entered into a strategic partnership with the Turkish rocket, missile and munition technology developer ROKETSAN. The companies plan to collaborate on future integrated counter-drone and force-protection solutions. EOS says the agreement reflects its “ongoing focus on working with established industry partners to support future customer requirements through structured collaboration and proven defense capability.”
