This year’s CLEO Conference and Exhibition will be held from 7 to 12 May in San Jose, CA, USA. One of the plenary speakers is Gihan Kamel, IR beamline principal scientist at the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East, or SESAME. In her talk entitled “SESAME: Synchrotron-Light and Peace at the End of the Tunnel,” she will discuss the facility’s historic journey to become the first third-generation synchrotron light source in the Middle East, its developmental milestones and studies conducted at its beamlines by researchers from the region and all over the world. [Editor's note: Subsequent to publication of the interview, Gihan Kamel had to cancel her plenary speaking engagement at CLEO.]
