Most people don’t think about the impact of public lighting on their nighttime commutes. They take public and commercial lighting for granted, enjoying modern illumination without ever considering how necessary it is—until it isn’t there. Every year, inadequate outdoor street lighting and subpar roadway design lead to countless accidents. Better analysis of public street lighting is the first step in tackling these issues.
