“Launched in April 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is now in routine operation, ‘chalking up’ a succession of scientific accomplishments despite a number of technical challenges … The first HST servicing mission, planned for no later than March 1994, is the most difficult and challenging satellite servicing mission NASA has ever attempted … The first HST servicing mission is, in reality, the beginning of the Hubble mission. If all goes well, the capability to accomplish the key programs will be possible.”
