In OPN’s December “Optics in 2022” review of interesting research, researchers from Nankai University, China, and INRS-EMT, Canada, described recent research in which the team developed terahertz (THz) frequency-tuning techniques using a lithium niobate chip, and that allowed for strong nonlinear THz frequency conversion. The work, the researchers believe, opens new avenues for THz generation, confinement and detection at the chip scale, with potential applications in THz computing, imaging and fingerprint detection.
