The experience of the past year and a half has highlighted the need for a more open dialogue between scientists, educators, policymakers and the public. OPN spoke with OSA Fellow John Dudley, a professor of physics at the Université Bourgogne Franche-Comté in France and the chair of the International Day of Light (IDL) steering committee, about the committee’s “Trust Science” pledge (www.trust-science.org) and the role of scientists as communicators in the future.
