On 20 September, aided by Optica Fellow Andrew Forbes, the society’s new brand made its public debut at the 2021 Optica South African Photonics Conference, held at the Spier Conference Center in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Attendees were introduced to the society’s new name in live video remarks from Optica 2021 President Connie Chang-Hasnain and Optica CEO Elizabeth Rogan—and also enjoyed an opportunity to rock their new Optica T-shirts. The meeting was underwritten by a grant from the Optica Foundation.
