Coronavirus has plagued 2020 with economic uncertainty—however, OSA’s senior industry advisor predicts that the laser industry may weather the storm better than most.

This year brought many challenges to laser system vendors, and not only due to the pandemic. Demand for industrial lasers, particularly from China, was already slowing as early as 2018. The simmering trade conflict between the U.S. and China created uncertainty over tariffs and restrictions. Then COVID-19 arrived—interrupting supply chains and creating yet more uncertainty over future sales.
