As research on quantum computing and communications moves increasingly toward real applications, a number of countries and regions—including China, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Canada—are investing billions of dollars in initiatives designed to put their own quantum industries at the front of the pack. Some scientists and engineers see the need for a similar effort, and similar funding commitment, in the United States.
