Stefan Sydor Optics: A Legacy in Optics Craftsmanship

Carol Corey

Stefan Sydor Optics was founded in 1964 as a small manufacturer of all types of optics. Since then, it has grown in size but narrowed in scope to become a leading producer of precision, flat-surfaced, parallel and wedged optics.

Stefan Sydor built his company on a foundation of craftsmanship. As an optician working in Rochester, N.Y.—one of the major optics hubs in the United States—Stefan wanted to apply his expertise to a “hands-on” business that could produce optics to meet any customer’s specifications. “In the early years, my father would take orders for virtually any type of optics and work day and night to complete them,” said Jim Sydor, who is now the president and CEO of the company.
