I have always been fascinated by creating materials from simple building blocks in imaginative ways that give them a specific functionality. As a child, that meant Lego cars. Later, it became research on microscopic matter built from colloidal particles, creating miniature versions of heat engines or even self-propulsive colloidal molecules.
