In his 1820 poem “Lamia,” the English Romantic John Keats memorably compared Newton’s famous experiment resolving the spectrum of white light with a prism to “unweaving a rainbow.” But what about the opposite process—“weaving a rainbow” by combining different wavelengths, each precisely associated with a specific spatial frequency?
