After spending most of his career at New York’s Stony Brook University, Janos Kirz has focused his attention for the past five years on the Department of Energy’s Advanced Light Source (ALS) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). There, he serves as scientific advisor to the ALS director. He also oversees the peer-review process for applications to use the ALS’s photon beams, and he is helping develop plans for a major new facility that would include an array of high-repetition-rate soft X-ray free electron lasers (FELs). Kirz will speak this month at OSA’s annual meeting about his work at ALS, including advances in X-ray optics and lensless imaging.
