An array of 5 mm diameter chrome steel ball bearings on a green foil is illuminated by, & photographed through, a single LED ring light placed a few centimetres above the array. Each ball bearing (acting as a convex mirror) forms a demagnified, virtual image of the 70 mm diameter ring light - this image is re-imaged by all the neighbouring ball bearings that can "see" it (the central ball bearing can be seen by all 12 of the surrounding bearings), & that image is re-imaged again, & again, ... This is an original image taken by me, Aongus McCarthy, using a Canon EOS 90D digital SLR camera and a Canon macro lens (EF 100 mm f/2.8L IS USM). Google Picasa was used to make minor adjustments to the contrast/brightness of the original image, and to crop it. No other digital manipulation was used. The image is from a single photograph.
