This is a side image of a 3D printed structure on the tip of an optical fibre. The printed structure consists of a 500um cylinder topped with one diffractive Fresnel lens, and a second diffractive Fresnel lens with smaller diameter hold by 6 pillars on the top. Stack of Z-focused images are taken by Keyence VHX 6000 vertical microscope and overlapped using the Keyence built-in software to create a single image with a homogeneous focus. Some noise reduction is also performed.
The fabrication and design is a collaborative work between Dr Asa Asadollahbaik, Mr Simon Thiele and Ms Ksenia Weber. The image is taken at Optics Lab in 4th Physics Institute (Head of the Institute: Professor Harald Giessen), University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart.
