Symmetric Sundogs

Symmetrical pair of parhelia (sundogs). The optical effect arises from the refraction and dispersion of sunlight passing through preferentially oriented hexagonal ice crystals in the atmosphere. The visible spectral separation illustrates the wavelength dependence of the refraction angle.
