Maxwell’s Equations in Periodic Structures

The book deals with recent developments in mathematical analysis and computational methods for solving Maxwell’s equations in periodic structures.

The book has seven chapters. The first two chapters introduce the reader to Maxwell’s equations and grating theory. Chapter 3 is dedicated to concerns for variational formulations for one- and two-dimensional gratings, while Chapter 4 is focused on adaptive finite element methods for solving the boundary value problems introduced in the previous chapter. Chapter 5 addresses the inverse diffraction grating problems, while chapter 6 concerns near-field imaging in diffractive optics. Finally, the last chapter deals with related topics in diffractive optics.

The book is addressed to anybody working in the area of electromagnetic field computation of periodic structures, which is the backbone of modern optics.
