Detection of Light, Third Edition

The book introduces the detection of light and is designed to be accessible to a broad range of readers rather than just highly trained specialists.

After two introductory chapters, the book treats infrared (and optical) photodetectors, amplifiers, readouts and arrays, and charge-coupled devices. Special topics follow, with chapters on superconducting detectors, bolometers, visible and infrared coherent detectors, and submillimeter- and millimeter-wave heterodyne receivers. The book is an ideal read for master’s and Ph.D. students in astronomical instrumentation.
