Neuromorphic Photonics

This is the first book dedicated to neuromorphic photonics, a new and emerging area of photonics. The book deals with neuronal networks implemented with the help of photonic devices that mimic similar structures of the brain, show learning abilities, a high degree of interconnections, and a high adaptability against noise.

The book is divided in three main parts. The first four chapters are an introduction to neuromorphic engineering, and the middle chapters are dedicated to photonic devices, networks and optical architectures that are able to implement neuromorphic configurations and algorithms. The final chapters are devoted to neuromorphic and optical computing.

Beautifully edited with figures in color, the text is written in a clear manner, and contains references at each chapter’s end. This book is a must for anybody working in modern optics, since it describes a new area of research in photonics dealing with analogies between optical and brain computations.
