Optics Grows in Kenya
The National Institute for Optics and Lasers is working to create a dynamic optics community in the country and throughout the region.

The founding of the National Institute of Optics and Lasers (NIOL) at the Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) in Nairobi, Kenya, in March 2019 marked a milestone: It launched the country’s first postgraduate degree program in optics and lasers. Since that time, NIOL administrators, faculty, staff and students have worked hard to grow the institute in terms of academic programs, enrollment and influence. Their ultimate goal is to enhance the global visibility and collaborations not only of their own institute, but also of the broader East African scientific community.
