Although women in EU countries outnumber men in university education in general, they remain underrepresented at all academic levels in STEM. In 2023, women represented only 31% of bachelor’s students and 28% of master’s and doctoral students in physics across EU countries. Since 2018, the proportion of women among doctoral graduates in physical sciences has even decreased.
