William Burgett is the project manager of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT)—a ground-based extremely large telescope currently under construction at Las Campanas Observatory, Chile. When the GMT is completed, it is expected to be the largest Gregorian optical-infrared telescope ever built, with a primary light-collecting surface 25.4 m in diameter.
