OPN talks with Trumpf Group’s Peter Leibinger about his roles in business and philanthropy.

Lots of people, in their work, “wear many hats”—but few have as interesting a set as Peter Leibinger. This year, Leibinger moved from the role of chief technology officer at the worldwide laser and machine tool giant Trumpf Group—a €5.4 billion (US$5.9 billion) firm owned and run by the Leibinger family for decades—to the chair of the company’s supervisory board, which oversees Trumpf’s strategic direction. He also heads the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung, a wide-ranging charitable foundation established by his parents in 1992 that, among many other activities, bestows two significant prizes in laser science and technology. OPN recently talked with Leibinger about his role at Trumpf, the foundation and what’s ahead for both.
