With COVID-19 subsiding in parts of the world, this year’s CLEO Conference and Exhibition, from 15 to 20 May, will take place in a hybrid format—in person in San Jose, California, USA, and online—after two years as a virtual event. Among the plenary speakers will be Optica Fellow Hui Cao, who will focus on the latest developments in light transport in diffusive media and multimode fibers, and Optica Fellow Peter J. Delfyett, who will talk about the physics of ultrafast photonics and semiconductor diode lasers and applications including the generation of stabilized optical frequency combs. OPN had a quick chat with both speakers for a taste of what’s ahead.
