Fiber Sensing Carves Out an IoT Space

Optical sensing within the Internet of Things will further smart manufacturing, smart labs and smart roadways.

In recent decades, incremental breakthroughs in fiber optic sensing have spurred unique ways of using the technology beyond its traditional applications in the energy sector—even in combining optical sensors with the emerging Internet of Things (IoT). Optical sensing paired with IoT technologies gives users the capacity to collect and process data with software on a device that could be anywhere, instead of within the sensor itself.
