Laser-Matter Interaction for Radiation and Energy

The scientific importance of lasers has generated interest in a large variety of fields in physics. This book is composed of chapters dealing with lasers, electromagnetic-wave propagation in different media, terahertz radiation generation and detection, surface plasmon resonance, and X-ray lasers.

While all the topics covered in this book are of considerable importance and interest to graduate students and researchers in optics and photonics, others of possibly equal importance—such as laser thermonuclear-fusion control and attosecond laser generation—will be of interest to engineers. Its organization provides considerable flexibility, making it suitable for use in courses of many kinds. A set of problems with hints to solutions cover a wide range of difficulties.
