Diode Lasers and Photonic Integrated Circuits, 2nd edition

This is a monumental book comprised of 700 pages divided into 8 chapters. The first three chapters are introductory and deal with the band structure in semiconductors, carrier generation via the laser effect and mirrors and resonators for diode lasers. The next two chapters present well-developed theories on laser diode operation. Chapters six and seven deal with optical propagation in guided media. The coupled mode theory and dielectric waveguides are thoroughly analyzed. Integrated circuits are described in chapter eight.
The book is very clearly written and has many demonstrated examples. It is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to learn about basic optoelectronic devices with every-day applications.
