“Newly developed antimonide diode lasers have been demonstrated in the 2 to 3 µm range with operation at wavelengths up to ~2.6 µm feasible using multiple-stage thermoelectric coolers. ... Distributed Bragg reflector devices have been demonstrated to operate at 2.0 detecting nitric oxide, an important automotive pollutant. Measured detection limits were between 60 and 80 times better than is possible using conventional near-IR lasers. Continued demand for pollution monitoring equipment … combined with the expected improvements in diode laser capabilities and reduced costs, will establish a large market for diode-laser-based gas sensors.”
