“Optical Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere (ORSA) has become increasingly important in the past few years due to man’s growing role in ozone depletion and global warming. ORSA is the only way to make routine measurements on a global scale of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols, and is a very important way to measure many of the key meteorological parameters … Near the end of this decade, NASA plans to launch the Earth Observing System (EOS), with ORSA instruments designed to monitor the atmosphere for 15 years to provide valuable trend information.”
