Conquering Turbulence Across 1 km

In OPN’s December “Optics in 2019” review of interesting research, Ze Zhang and colleagues highlighted a technique for creating "optical pin beams" that can propagate across a distance of 1 km in a turbulent environment with little distortion. This video compares the pin-beam propagation with the behavior of an ordinary (Gaussian) beam.
