A new holographic microscope is inexpensive, compact and lightweight, and can be used for both transmission and reflection imaging with resolutions down to 2 µm. The device—about the size of a banana—could make a significant difference to health care. It is described by Myungjun Lee, Oguzhan Yaglidere and Aydogan Ozcan from University of California, Los Angeles (U.S.A.), in Biomedical Optics Express (2, 2721).
