For the trained scientist or engineer pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, it’s easy to forget that the issues he or she confronts every day don’t always take the same priority for others. This is especially true in Washington, where annual investments in science compete with funding for health care, retirement programs, business development incentives, or the concerns of a nation at war.
